Photojournalism Ethics

I personally think photojournalism ethics should be situational. Although there may be right and wrong...there is always something in between that could be labeled as both right and wrong. Anything that has to do with an important event, possibly historical, relgion, politics, death,..etc anything that is an important situation shouldn't be manipulated. I believe that some photos capture the truth... But there are photos that were thoughtfully planned and only show part of the truth which includes that what was in the picture was set up to look like that in a single moment. The photo itself is true... But what happened in the photo might not necessarily be true.
The only decisions I have made that have "editted" reality is when I changed the picture sharpness, giving it a better photographic quality. It is important that news editors have made the ethical standards clear because if there weren't rules to follow, then photographers would distort different pictures of important situations to make an illusion that could cause chaos to viewers looking at it. It's kind of like writing a false story about a death, or something beneficial to one's knowledge. It's ethically and morally wrong.

Fashion Ethics

The changes that were made in the Dove Video included reshaping the girl's facial structure, making her neck longer, narrowing her face up, tightening her skin, upscaling the size of her eyes, giving her a supposedly "flawless" look in order to make the photo more appealing and to sell this product.

Ethically, I honestly don't agree with maniupulating a photo for the purpose of selling a product...I think it is very unethical because it's just adding onto the false advertisement that continually distorts the true vision of many products for the viewers/consumers. I think the only real time manipulating a photo is ethical is if it is for art related purposes...To create a certain concept, to let people view things differently. But if a photo is meant to prove something that is true, to show people what truly happened; then I think that the photo should be as natural as possible instead of appealing to the eye..Because it is obviously not trying to prove a point, but trying to show people in the world what is actually happening in the world today. Now although Fashion Photography is more of an art, I don't think it is okay to portray people as unnaturally beautiful to 'distort the idea of beauty' among young and older people of the world. It's not logical..
In photojournalism it differs because photos that are to be shown in newspapers [which are meant to inform people] are not necessarily in the artistic category; because of this, photojournalism's ethical limits are far more serious than the drastic changes many advertisements in the Fashion Industry make. Their relation in reality is...Fashion is more of an artificial need, it isn't beneficial to living..... It isn't beneficial to life such as the news which can alert you in dangerous/important situations which could save your life.

Repetition

The giant cluster of bikes shows repetition in the shapes of the wheels of the bike, the bike's parts, and the people holding the bikes up.

The repetition is how the gymnasts are all in the same positon, facing the same way.

Good Example: Because this picture is a good example of simplicity. using the
marine's jacket to cover up any "junk" in the background, which helps us focus
on the little girl, who looks safe in the arms of the man.
Bad Example: The only bad thing about it is, that is a little blurry.

The Story

The Story I get from this picture is...

While everything around this girl may be chaotic, going fast...everything that she seems to do, or gets consumed in suddenly feels as if time is stopping, or slowing down. Another concept could be, she feels like everyone is actually going somewhere, while she feels stuck in slow motion..

Action & Emotion

This is the best action & emotion because music is a beautiful art, what's better than that?

Filling the Frame

Fall Contests

This picture is inspiring to me because it proves how beautiful simplicity truly is.
The lighting contrasts, and the different shades make the photo powerful because it is showing the details of the cat & the couch, yet it looks so simple; there aren't any excess objects or backgrounds that pull you away from the main focus.

My favorite:

1. There isn't any action, just the sun shining through a forest.

2.The roots in the front of the picture are in focus, the sun shining through the trees are blurry.

3.The image is not warped at all.

My least favorite:

1,There is just a hand that is resting on something, or just up in the air...kind of a blur, but hardly any.

2.The hand is the only thing in focus, there's nothing around it that is even noticeable.

3.Not warped.

I chose this picture as the "good" picture because:
It shows emotion.
There aren't any excess objects in the background.
It focuses on the main person that is supposed to be in the picture.

I picked this picture for the "not so good" because
it isn't focused mainly on the girl's actions.
There's a lot of excess background objects in the picture.
It's blurry.
